Music Palette is happy to announce many workshops available to students in the Columbus area (see below). These workshops are open to the public. Workshops for students of all ages through adult. Includes Composition, Voice, Lead sheet Workshop, and Jewish Music Styles, just to name a few. More workshops will be added throughout the year and can be viewed at columbusmusicpalette.com.

BAROQUE – 20TH CENTURY MUSIC MEET THE STYLES!
Ages 9-15 — Fee: $30 per class or sign up for all 5 classes for $130
Fridays 5-7 p.m. — Minimum class size 6, maximum class size 12

A class for everyone to enjoy! Come and learn about the history of each style period, listen to good music, perform if you want to, and meet some of the composers from those periods. No prior music study is required.

Dates: Oct. 28, Jan. 27, Feb. 24, March 31, April 7

JEWISH MUSIC STYLES AND ACCOMPANIMENT
Ages 10 and up — Fee: $40
Thursday Nov. 10, 6:00- 8:00 p.m. — Minimum class size 6, maximum class size 12

The rich Jewish heritage is full of great music; however, finding musical arrangements of popular Jewish songs can be difficult. Come learn about some of your favorite songs and how to play the tunes or accompany them on the piano. Some songs we will learn are: Havenu Shalom, Aleichem, HaTikvah, Dayenu, and more. Intermediate and advanced piano students are welcome to come and bring one relative who wants to sing along.

VOICE WORKSHOPS

BEGINNING VOICE
Ages 9-15 ?Saturdays 10:15 a.m.-12 p.m
Fee: $100 (includes materials) — Minimum class size 6, maximum class size 12.

No experience necessary! If you love singing, and you want to learn how to improve your voice, come and enjoy learning in a low pressure class setting. You will learn some beginning breathing exercises and technical warmups. Also, you will learn how to read in the treble clef, and additional music concepts necessary to progress in singing.

INTERMEDIATE VOICE
Ages 12-16?Saturdays 1-2:45 p.m.
Fee: $100 (includes materials) — Minimum class size 6, maximum class size 12.

Have you been singing in a choir, and now you’d like to work on improving your solo voice? Perhaps you play another instrument, but you also like to sing. Come join us for class voice where you can be surrounded by others who love singing, and receive some gentle critique that will help you improve. In addition to learning breathing exercises and vocal warm-ups, students will also be given theory introduction to chords and scales, in order to understand how they relate to singing. Students will also learn some beginning techniques for sight-singing. Those enrolled should know how to read in the treble clef.

ADVANCED VOICE
Ages 15 to Adult
Thursdays 6:45-8:45 p.m.
Fee: $100 (includes materials) — Minimum class size 5, maximum class size 11.

If you already have some experience singing, but now you’d like to learn to sign in a foreign language, come join us for advanced voice class. We will focus on some important Italian arias and a few German art songs. In addition to performance practice and diction guidance, students will learn some fundamentals of theory such as scales and key signatures as they relate to singing. Students should know how to read in the treble clef.

COMPOSITION WORKSHOPS

BEGINNING COMPOSITION
Ages: 10-13
Saturdays: 10 a.m.- 12 p.m.?Fee: $60 (for both classes) — Minimum class size 5, maximum class size 11

This beginning composition workshop will focus on learning how to create a melody using simple question and answer phrases as well as other techniques used by the masters. As the students progress, they will learn some basic tools of music theory and how to put chords together to create a song. Students must be able to read treble clef music notation.

4 POP Composition Workshop
Ages 12-17+

Pop music has become such an important part of our culture, so that anyone who wants to communicate through music needs to be familiar with how this style is put together. In this class, for both composers and performers, we will study some popular pieces to see what chords and form are used. Then, we will learn some of the common chords used in pop and jazz music that are not used in classical music. Each person is welcome to bring a piece that they have written to perform or to share through a recording, and the pieces will be discussed in an encouraging fashion. Students should know how to read treble and bass clef, and know all major and minor chords.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED COMPOSITION
Ages 12-18
Saturdays 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m
Fee: $100 (series of 3 classes) — Minimum class size 5, maximum class size 11

Intermediate and Advanced composition students will receive an overview of the fundamentals of music theory, and how this applies to composition. Learning about chords, keys, scales and their functions, and identifying their usage in different songs will enrich each student’s ability to compose with fluency. Pieces from the masters will be studied to learn about composition techniques. Students can bring an original composition to share and develop. Advanced students will learn to write for multiple instruments and encouraged to branch out of their style to include other composition styles and techniques. Those enrolled for this class must be able to read treble and bass clef, and know major and minor chords.

READING A LEAD SHEET WORKSHOP
Ages 11-17+ — Fee: $30
Friday 5-7pm — Minimum class size 6, maximum class size 12

Jazz musicians, church musicians, and many other instrumentalists play music just by looking at a lead sheet. However, classically trained pianists often have a difficult time interpreting the chord symbols on the page. In this class, you will learn some basic accompaniment patterns that can be used, and practice playing and interpreting a lead sheet as a group and individually. Students should know how to read treble clef, and know all major and minor chords.
