District Festival 2017 CANCELED

District Festival 2017 has been canceled. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to institute a similar event in 2018.

Over the last five years, District Festival enrollment has declined steadily. At the May 2016 Board Meeting, an ad hoc committee was established to investigate further. This Committee was comprised of the District Festival co-chairs, several former co-chairs, the Immediate Past President, and the Vice President of Student Activities. After meeting this past summer, the Committee came to the conclusion that unless there is enough projected interest, District Festival is in grave danger of operating at a loss. Rather than proceed with the event, the Committee will work toward revamping District Festival into an event with increased teacher and student participation. The Finance Committee also supported this decision.

In September, the District Festival co-chairs sent a survey to the district membership to gauge projected participation numbers. Unfortunately, the numbers were not high enough to support the cost of the event. The Committee voted to cancel District Festival 2017 so that they can work toward an improved event for 2018. The Executive Board unanimously approved the Committee motion.
