Congratulations to Laura Wynia, NCTM

Congratulations to Hilliard piano teacher Laura Hughes Wynia, NCTM, who has just earned national certification through Music Teachers National Association. Laura’s teaching experience includes working as a state park naturalist and teaching middle school math and science, teaching speech and homeschooling her five children. She has been teaching piano for 26 years and currently has 22 students.

After completing the Teacher Profile Projects, she had this to say:

“To quote a popular song, “sometimes we don’t know what we don’t know.” That described me when starting the certification process! I only knew that I wanted to become the best teacher that I could be. Through the certification process, each project encouraged me to research, think, and reevaluate my teaching, making me a more confident, effective and purposeful teacher. As I researched and learned from colleagues, I enjoyed incorporating new ideas into my own teaching and seeing my students’ resulting progress. I’m not the same teacher as I was a year and a half ago! Taking private lessons with a master teacher to prepare for my performance video was probably the best investment I have ever made in myself as a piano teacher. The lessons took my playing to a new level, while giving me new empathy for my students and new ways of coaching them.”

Hearty congratulations to Laura!
